Canadian Association for Financial Empowerment (CAFE) brings National Summit to Alberta, Spotlighting Indigenous, Agricultural Finance, and Mental Health in Financial Counselling

2025 Financial Literacy Leaders Summit for the first time in Alberta as it sets sail on their pan-Canadian tour.

The Canadian Association for Financial Empowerment (CAFE) is hosting its upcoming national summit in Calgary, Alberta, from October 8 to 10, 2025, marking a pivotal moment for financial education and empowerment across Canada. This year’s summit will focus on three core themes: Indigenous Finance, Agricultural Finance, and Mental Health, reflecting the unique needs and opportunities present in Alberta and beyond.

“Alberta’s economy is deeply rooted in the land—whether it’s under the land, on top of the land, or touring the land. It’s the heart of the province’s identity and economy. By hosting the summit here, we’re recognising the vital intersection of Indigenous and agrarian communities and the specialised financial needs they face,” said Lauren Cañafranca, Director of Certification and Community Development at CAFE.

Lauren emphasised the importance of accurate financial education for Indigenous communities, noting that gaps and misinformation persist in Canadian personal finance. “Our goal is to make Indigenous finance a central theme, so financial counsellors can challenge misconceptions with education and provide tailored support to their communities,” she explained.

The summit will also address the unique financial challenges of agricultural families, including succession planning, trust work, and the stresses of farm financing. “Farm families have very specific needs, and our summit aims to bridge the gap between specialised financial needs and available resources,” Lauren added.

Mental health will round out the summit’s themes, with sessions dedicated to supporting farming families and rural communities. The event will feature a range of speakers, exhibitors, and networking opportunities, including a gala on the evening of October 9 and formal sessions designed to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.

The summit will take place at the Carriage Hotel and Conference Centre in Calgary. By moving the summit from its traditional home in the Greater Toronto Area to Calgary for the commencement of our pan-Canadian tour, CAFE is ensuring representation for communities across Western Canada. “We’re out here doing important work, and it’s time to showcase the impact of financial counselling and empowerment in these regions,” Lauren said.
